Some Celtic fans are eager to see Filip Benkovic back at the club on loan this January after suggestions he could be set to leave Leicester again.

The Telegraph reckon he could be sent back out on loan by manager Brendan Rodgers after failing to breaking to the first-team this season.

The paper say that Rodgers has £80m to play with after the sale of Harry Maguire and will use some of that to bolster his defensive options.

Benkovic has yet to make a single appearance for the Foxes so far this term, not even making any of their matchday squads on the bench.

Rodgers brought the Croatian to Celtic, but it seems he doesn't trust the player to do a job in the English Premier League.

Neil Lennon's team could do with another defender to provide more competition at centre-back. Christopher Jullien is doing a decent job but Kristoffer Ajer has struggled for consistent form and Jozo Simunovic is out injured for another few months.

Midfielder Nir Bitton is available but he's not a natural choice in the position. Neither is right-back Hatem Abd Elhamed. Jack Hendry meanwhile has been handed just 11 minutes of action since Lennon arrived at the club.

On a loan basis Benkovic would be a smart acquisition. The 6ft 4in Croatian knows the Scottish league and has proven he can compete for the Hoops already. It could be the kind of defensive boost Celtic need in the second half of the season.
