Mauricio Pochettino has told BT Sport, during their Champions League coverage last night, that he feels Tottenham Hotspur’s poor start was down to the fact that they started pre-season too late.

Spurs played in the Champions League final last term, so were back later than some other sides for pre-season.

And the fact that Tottenham started their preparations for the new campaign in a delayed fashion meant that Pochettino didn’t have time to fully settle his squad.

“My theory is that we start late in our preparation,” Pochettino revealed.

“Always you use pre-season to settle the principles of the team, tactics and physicality and the the dynamic of the group.

“We start so late, and during the competition it’s so difficult and so tough when you need to create that dynamic, sometimes you need that type of period.”

Spurs have looked completely out of sorts this season, with Pochettino seemingly searching for his best side.

The Argentinian boss has tinkered with his team constantly as he has looked to get to the bottom of Tottenham’s problems.

Pochettino may finally have found a successful line-up now, as Spurs were in good form in the Champions League last night.

Spurs won 5-0 against Red Star Belgrade, as they picked up their first victory in Europe this term.

And Tottenham will hope that the win can provide them with a platform to build on over future weeks, as they look to get their season back on track.
