Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle has not been fit enough to start a game for Steve Bruce’s men this term.
Gayle has not been fit enough to start for Newcastle at all this season, but he did make it off the bench in their latest match.
Gayle was unable to help Newcastle back into the match against Chelsea, as Bruce’s side slipped to a 1-0 defeat.
But Bruce feels that Newcastle’s attacking options are much improved now that Gayle is back fit and available.
“I have tried to sign Dwight three times but could never afford him,” the Magpies boss said.
“It’s vitally important that he stays fit because he reminds me of why I have tried to buy him that many times.
“In training, I get those reminders as his finishing is excellent, excellent!
“I am delighted to have him.
“He’s booming around the training ground and again he gives me another option which is good.”
Gayle was sent out on loan by Newcastle last term, with Rafael Benitez seemingly deeming him surplus to requirements.
However, Bruce has insisted that he is a big fan of Gayle and his appointment has given the striker another chance at St. James’ Park.
Gayle scored prolifically in the Championship last term, and if he even hits the back of the net half as regularly in the Premier League he will be a major asset to Newcastle.
Gayle is in competition with Andy Carroll and Joelinton for a starting place in Bruce’s side this term.
