The Ibrox captain’s poor form is a big talking point at Rangers this week.

Some Rangers fans think that Daniel Candeias’ exit is one of the principle reasons that James Tavernier has lost form this season.

Steven Gerrard’s captain has made a number of high profile errors this season, most recently against Hearts on Sunday.

His misjudged header allowed the home side to score and ultimately cost the Gers two crucial points.

There’s now serious pressure to drop the player and give Matt Polster a chance in the position.

Candeias, who has three goals and three assists for Turkish Super Lig side Genclerbirligi this season, had a famously productive partnership with Tavernier over the last couple of seasons at Ibrox.

Signed by Pedrio Caixinha in 2017, the Portuguese’s absence is now being felt by some supporters.

His presence is unlikely to have stopped Tavernier make the basic errors he has been.

However, there’s also little doubt that in a general sense the captain’s performances haven’t been to his usual standard so far this term, especially defensively.

In attack, the 27-year-old has been productive, already creating eight assists this season.

James Tavernier of Rangers makes a cross during the Scottish Premier League match between Hearts and Rangers at Tynecastle Park on 20 October, 2019 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Did the hard-working winger protect the Englishman when playing together?
