The Tottenham Hotspur captain hasn’t had a memorable 2019.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been included in a 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.

The France keeper, a World Cup winner in 2018, posted a series of impressive performances in helping Spurs to a Champions League final in June.

European displays aside, the Tottenham captain hasn’t had a brilliant 2019 domestically and is currently out until 2020 after a mistake in a 3-0 defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.

Lloris suffered a dislocated elbow after fumbling a routine cross at The Amex Stadium before the most recent international break.

It was the latest disappointment in a list of howlers for the former Lyon man over the past 12 months or so.

Here’s how neutral fans reacted to his Ballon d’Or nomination:

Lloris, on his day, is a fine, fine goalkeeper and his performances en route to Madrid last season prove as much.

But the reality is that he hasn’t been all that consistent for quite a few years and you can understand the strong response to him being named here.
