Wesley Moraes and Joelinton joined Aston Villa and Newcastle United respectively in the summer transfer window.
Phil Thompson suggested on Sky Sports Premier League (12:18pm, October 19, 2019) that Everton should have tried to sign Wesley Moraes or Joelinton before the former went to Aston Villa and the latter moved to Newcastle United.
Villa signed 22-year-old Brazilian forward Wesley from Club Brugge in the summer transfer window, while his Brazilian compatriot and 23-year-old forward Joelinton switched to Newcastle from 1899 Hoffenheim in the summer.
Liverpool legend Thompson, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has suggested that Everton should have tried for Wesley or Joelinton.
Thompson said on Sky Sports Premier League (12:18pm, October 19, 2019): “There are strikers out there. Wesley went to Aston Villa. They paid some decent money for him, not too much, not excessive. Where were they looking for these kind of strikers?
“I know Joelinton has may be not hit it off at Newcastle yet, but he gives you a presence, he gives you a physical presence.”
Need for a striker
Everton won at the weekend, but that does not hide the fact that they are in desperate need of a proven striker.
Turkey international Cenk Tosun has failed to make a major impact at Goodison Park, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not prolific.
The Toffees are still looking for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who left the Merseyside outfit for Manchester United in 2017 and is now at Inter Milan.
