Andre Gomes played well for Everton against West Ham United at the weekend.

Joe Cole has suggested that big clubs will come for Andre Gomes if he plays consistently well for Everton, as quoted in The Liverpool Echo.

The former West Ham United star made the comments following Everton’s 2-0 win against the Hammers at Goodison Park in the Premier League at the weekend.

The 26-year-old central midfielder had one of his best games for the Toffees so far this season, as the Portugal international was superb in the middle of the park against West Ham.

According to WhoScored, the former Barcelona and Valencia central midfielder played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 80.4%, won one header, took 62 touches, attempted three dribbles, and made one tackle and two substitute appearances.

The Liverpool Echo quotes Cole as saying about Gomes: “He could be a hero at this club in a similar vein of Mikel Arteta.”

Cole added: “It didn’t work out at Barcelona for Gomes and the same with Arteta he never got through to the top clubs like a Man City or Man United, but he could be a hero here and make a home for himself.

“If he continues to perform like that, the massive clubs will come knocking but it’s about consistency. I’ve seen him three or four times this season and he hasn’t performed like that.”

Important player for Everton

Gomes was brilliant for Everton during his loan spell at Goodison Park from Barcelona last season.

The central midfielder has not been exactly great for the Toffees so far this season (although injuries have played a negative role), but there is no doubt that the Portuguese has what it takes to be a long-term success for the Merseyside outfit.

According to WhoScored, Gomes has made five starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Everton so far this season, while in 2018-19, the Portuguese made 24 starts and three substitute appearances in the league for the Toffees.
