Michael Brown says critics should lay off Marcelo Bielsa.
Marcelo Bielsa has seen questions asked of his selection policy at Leeds United during the 2019/20 campaign, but Michael Brown considers that debate to be disrespectful.
The Argentine tactician has faced accusations of being too loyal to certain players and not shuffling his pack as often as he could.
Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah have been central to those arguments, with many supporters calling for an Arsenal loanee to see more minutes.
Bielsa is, however, considered to have earned the right to make whatever decisions he sees fit.
That is the view of former Whites midfielder Brown, who told HITC Sport during a phone interview: “Everyone’s saying Nketiah, does he play, does he not, what’s he doing with Bamford?
“Bamford has had his criticism but the West Brom game, I covered the game and I gave him a bit of backing because I watched his work rate, I watched what he put in for the team – his hold up play was good, his tireless work for the team, and that’s what it’s about.
“Everyone has questioned Bielsa, but look at what he’s done. Yes, they didn’t make it into the Premier League, but they are in the mix and they have to stay positive.
“You have to believe in what he’s doing. It’s disrespecting him to say he should change things around because he knows what he’s doing.”
Bielsa carried Leeds close to the Premier League Promised Land last season, only to see his side come up short in the play-offs.
He returned for a second campaign at Elland Road with the intention of getting over the line and succeeding where plenty before him have failed.
A 1-0 victory over Birmingham on Saturday has got the Whites upwardly mobile once more.
The centenary celebrations in West Yorkshire got the result Bielsa and Co were crying out for, with Leeds back into the automatic promotion places heading into a midweek round of Championship fixtures.
