Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United won against Birmingham City at Elland Road at the weekend.

Birmingham City caretaker-manager Pep Clotet has suggested to the club’s official website that he was impressed with Leeds United at the weekend.

Leeds got the better of Birmingham 1-0 at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The West Yorkshire outfit were the better team and could have added to their tally.

Clotet, a former Leeds assistant manager, was impressed with Leeds and have praised Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Clotet told Birmingham’s official website: “Leeds press very, very well and everything has to be very precise for that ball to go in. The same could apply to ourselves as we managed to dismantle most of Leeds’ attacks.

“We could have done slightly better with our chances, but Leeds is a tough place, they defend in numbers and press you as soon as you win the ball back. I think we competed, against a team that will be up there for promotion at the end of the season.”

Important win

Leeds have not been great at Elland Road for a while now, and the win against Birmingham in front of their own fans was very important and hugely encouraging.

The result means that the West Yorkshire outfit are now second in the Championship table with 23 points from 12 matches, just two points behind leaders West Bromwich Albion.

The Whites will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Preston North End away from home in the Championship and will fancy their chances of picking up all three points from the encounter.
