The claret and blues beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1, with Grealish claiming a goal and an assist in the contest.
And Redknapp revealed that Grealish is looking to play more bravely this season.
“I spoke to Jack Grealish recently and he told me he wants to take more risks,” Redknapp said.
“Some midfielders like to play it safe, but that is not how you get yourself goals.
“In front of the watching Gareth Southgate on Saturday, Grealish took a risk and scored, helping Aston Villa on their way to what could prove to be a vital 2-1 win over Brighton later in the season. Grealish is showing no fear in his game now.”
Grealish’s form will be crucial to Villa, as they look to consolidate their place back in the top flight.
The 24-year-old has certainly stepped up in recent weeks, with Villa picking up back to back wins to ease any concerns, after a slightly slow start.
Smith’s side now sit in 11th place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Manchester City.
