Arsenal and Everton have been linked with defender Unai Nunez.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Athletic Bilbao defender Unai Nunez has switched agent as he ‘waits for a move’ away from the club, with Arsenal and Everton linked.
Nunez, 22, is the latest young star to have come up through the Bilbao ranks, and he emerged in the 2017-18 season, when Aymeric Laporte left for Manchester City.
The 6ft 1in centre back made his Spain debut last month in a 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands, but his situation with his club isn’t quite so good, having made just three league appearances this season.
Nunez has potential but is out of favour under manager Gaizka Garitano – and it’s claimed that he’s now waiting for a move away in order to play football elsewhere.
Nunez has even taken the step of changing his agency, as he has left agent Felix Tainta and will now be represented by the Leaderbrock Sports agency in Valencia.
That is seen as another indication that Nunez wants to move on, and the news comes just days after the Daily Mail reported that Arsenal and Everton both want to sign Nunez, who has a €30million (£26million) release clause in his current deal.
Given that Everton failed to sign loanee Kurt Zouma permanently over the summer, the Toffees may be more desperate for a centre back in January, and that £26million price would fit into their budget.
Arsenal have Sokratis Papastathopoulos, David Luiz, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi, whilst William Saliba will arrive next summer, meaning signing another centre back in January – even a talented young one like Nunez – may not be a priority.
