The Black Cats had a day to forget as new boss Phil Parkinson failed to bring any points back to the Stadium of Light.
A number of Sunderland fans have been commenting on Twitter about their side’s performance in the 1-0 loss at Wycombe and one Black Cats player who came under scrutiny was Grant Leadbitter.
Installed as the holding midfielder in a 4-3-3 formation by new manager Phil Parkinson, the 33-year-old failed to make an impact on the game and looked largely off the pace, with his set-piece attempts not causing the opposition much trouble.
In the end, Leadbitter was taken off by Parkinson with 20 minutes to go, Marc McNulty coming in as the Black Cats sought to find an equaliser, but ultimately to no avail.
Here is what some of the Stadium of Light faithful were saying on social media about Leadbitter’s exploits today:
Woeful corner from Leadbitter, goes out for a goal kick— Speak Sunderland (@SpeakSAFC) October 19, 2019

God please just take Leadbitter off. #safc— Jordan Ramsey (@RamseySAFC) October 19, 2019
Said it before he re-signed and I’ll say it again, Grant Leadbitter was/is a waste of an extremely good league 1 wage! #SAFC— Terry Unsworth (@WhiteEddy_83) October 19, 2019
Wycombe took the lead just before the half hour mark as Joe Jacobson’s free kick from the left was headed down by Adebayo Akinfenwa and met by Darius Charles on the volley from from eight yards out.
The result means Sunderland now sit 10th in the League One table, seven points behind the now second-placed Chairboys.
