Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos was in action last night.

Arsenal’s first-team may only be in action on Monday night, but their under-23’s had a big game on Friday night.

The Gunners take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday night, but players who won’t be involved were given a chance to impress on Friday night.

Arsenal’s under-23’s took on Chelsea at Aldershot’s Electrical Services Stadium, but fell to a 3-1 defeat against their London rivals.

Charlie Brown and Clinton Mola put Chelsea 2-0 up, and whilst Ben Cottrell pulled one back for Arsenal, Brown struck again to give Chelsea a 3-1 win.

That will have been disappointing for Emery, and the performance of defender Konstantinos Mavropanos won’t have exactly inspired confidence.

The 21-year-old has been out of action for a large chunk of 2019, and only came back from an injury sustained on the final day of last season in an under-23 game last month.

Mavropanos started against Chelsea, but the Greek centre back didn’t exactly impress, with Arsenal fans slating him on Twitter for his performance.

Some suggested that Mavropanos has been corrupted by compatriot Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and is ‘clearly struggling’ at under-23 level as he works his way back from injury.

Others called him an ‘awful signing’ and looks done at under-23 level, even suggesting that he didn’t look interested in a woeful display on Friday night.
