According to the back pages of the Scottish Daily Star, Scottish Daily Express and Daily Record (18/10), Rangers are looking to land Everton defender Lewis Gibson after Steven Gerrard was tipped off about a potential deal.
Gibson was coming up through the Newcastle United ranks before deciding to leave his hometown club for a move to Goodison Park in 2017.
The defender was signed in a deal worth £1million rising to a huge £6million, but he has failed to make a single Premier League appearance since his move to Everton more than two years ago.
It's now believed that Rangers want to sign Gibson in January, with new director of football Ross Wilson aware of his situation at Everton, with the teenager looking for first-team football.
The reports note that Rangers boss Gerrard has been tipped off by his Merseyside connections about Gibson's potential desire to move, and Rangers are plotting a deal.
Gibson is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning that Rangers can sign him on a pre-contract agreement in January, and would only have to pay £240,000 in compensation thanks to cross-border contract rules.
Rangers have pulled off similar bargain moves for the likes of Matt Crooks, Josh Windass, Jordan Rossiter, Joe Dodoo and Joe Aribo in recent times, and Gibson could be the latest to join the list.
Gibson could join Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Filip Helander and George Edmundson in the centre back ranks, but with his ability to play at left back, he can also offer competition for Borna Barisic in what could be a smart move by the Gers.
