Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has told RMC Sport, as translated by Get French Football News, that Youcef Atal won't be leaving in January – and may not even go next summer either.

Atal, 23, only joined Nice from Paradou in his native Algeria in 2018, and quickly became a sensation with the Ligue 1 side.

The right back racked up six goals and one assist in 29 games for Nice last season, becoming one of the most in-demand right backs in Europe.

Nice managed to fend off interest over the summer, keeping at least until January, but there is mounting interest in his signature ahead of the next transfer window.

Calciomercato claimed recently that Chelsea are keen on Atal, whilst earlier this month, the Daily Star suggested that Atal is a top January target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham fans repeatedly call for Atal to join, firstly back in August but even this week too, suggesting he should be signed if fellow right back Kyle Walker-Peters is loaned out.

However, the two London clubs may have been dented, as Nice president Rivere has suggested that not only will Atal stay put in January, but may not even be allowed to leave next summer either before even mocking Newcastle United.

“He will not leave this winter,” said Rivere. “And I will even tell you, it is not anticipated that he will leave next summer. Our aim is to bring in talented youngsters, grow them, improve them. And without lacking respect for anyone, it is not to then sell them to Newcastle or clubs like that, no, we keep them with us. Aside from that, if one day clubs like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich come, then it will be difficult to keep them. But aim is not to be adopting a policy of trading players around,” he added.

Tottenham certainly need Atal more than Chelsea do, but with Rivere reluctant to sell, it may be difficult to lure him to the Premier League any time soon.
