Newcastle United’s coaches have been impressed with Florian Lejeune’s progress in training, and the centre-back could come back into contention this weekend, according to the Chronicle.
Lejeune has not been fit enough to feature for Newcastle this season, but he could now be contention for Steve Bruce’s side.
That is a boost to Newcastle, but Bruce is unlikely to throw the Frenchman straight back in.
Lejeuene may well rank among Newcastle’s best centre-backs, but Bruce’s side looked rock solid in their last match.
Newcastle beat Manchester United, with Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar impressing in the heart of their defence.
Lejeune may now have to bide his time as he waits for his first chance of the season at Newcastle.
Allan Saint-Maximin and Andy Carroll are also both fit enough to play for Newcastle at the weekend, with the Chronicle suggesting that Bruce almost has a full strength side to pick from.
Newcastle will need their players to perform to the maximum of their ability at the weekend if they are to pick up a positive result, as they take on in-form Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
