Aston Villa have reportedly received a fitness boost over Jonathan Kodjia.

The Ivory Coast striker hasn't kicked a ball under Dean Smith since the defeat at Tottenham on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Kodjia, a £15 million signing by Aston Villa in 2016 [ESPN], was originally struck down by an ankle injury, before suffering a freak cheekbone issue during training.

But according to The Express & Star, Kodjia is in contention to make his return in this weekend's visit of Brighton & Hove Albion.

It's another boost for Smith, even if £22 million striker Wesley has found his feet finally.

The big Brazilian is certain to spearhead Villa's attack after scoring twice in the 5-1 demolition at Norwich City prior to the international break.

In addition to Wesley, Kodjia is also probably behind Keinan Davis in Smith's pecking order.

But the former Bristol City star is a very handy and very experienced option to have on the bench.
