Many England fans have hit back at Gareth Southgate, as Liverpool defender Joe Gomez appears to be set to miss out on playing for his country again this evening.

England have struggled badly at the back recently, but Liverpool’s Gomez has been overlooked.

Gomez has struggled for game time at Liverpool this term, with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, the Telegraph report that Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings is set to be given his England debut against Bulgaria this evening.

And many Liverpool supporters are questioning why Southgate is turning to Mings over Gomez.

Mings has been in excellent form for Villa since joining in January, but Gomez is regarded as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in the country.

Whether Southgate is making the right decision by leaving Gomez out as he isn’t playing regularly at Liverpool is very much up for debate.

England lost their last match against the Czech Republic and will be looking to bounce back with a victory this evening against Bulgaria.
