The Saints fan favourite has taken the St Mary’s summer signing under his wing.

Southampton midfielder Sofiane Boufal has spoken very highly of teammate Moussa Djenepo and is doing his best to ensure the Saints summer signing is “ready to smash the Premier League” (Daily Echo).

Djenepo, who according to The Sun cost the St Mary’s outfit £14million from Standard Liege, has made three Premier League appearances for Southampton this season amid some injury issues, but already has two goals this term (Transfermarkt).

In addition, the Mali international recently won the Premier League Goal of the Month for his superb solo strike in the game against Sheffield United on 14 September, which proved to be the winning goal for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

In the game, Djenepo collected the ball midway inside the opposition half and held off a midfielder before beating two defenders and firing a powerful low drive beyond the reach of goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

“Moussa is my brother,” the £16million signing (BBC Sport) told the Daily Echo. “I am happy to play with him and I am also happy for the club because they have bought a very good player. When we play together I am excited because I know him, and he knows me and how we play. We enjoy our time together.”

Regarding his proactivity in taking Djenepo under his wing, Boufal added: “I am like that, if I can help a young player then I will do it. I have experience in England and I have given him advice about the things that I did wrong… I want to help him stay focused on what he needs to do, even if he doesn’t play. I want him to be ready to smash the Premier League.”

Djenepo has been out with a hip problem since netting his winner against the Blades last month and no return date has been set at present, as reported by the Daily Echo earlier this month.
