The Pompey striker did not impress in the Fratton Park stalemate and some fans made their feelings known.
A number of Portsmouth fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Brett Pitman’s display in Saturday’s stalemate at Fratton Park.
The 31-year-old barely had any impact in the meeting with Gillingham before being forced off in the 54th minute with an injury and being replaced by John Marquis.
It was overall a very frustrating afternoon for the Pompey faithful as their team dominated possession but lacked any real consistency in the final third and came up against a goalkeeper in inspired form, Jack Bonham pulling off several smart saves.
Portsmouth’s best effort came when Sean Raggett connected with Gareth Evans’ free kick and sent a header goalwards but it came back off the post and the rebound was scrambled clear.
Here is what was said on Twitter regarding the £900,000-valued (Transfermarkt) player’s display:
Pitman doesn’t do enough for me.— Jake Till (@Pompey_Jake) October 12, 2019
Pitman has spent way too much time in our half.— Greg. Play Up Pompey (@Walkes_This_Way) October 12, 2019
My earlier positive tweet seems like a long time ago. a spark of creativity missing….. again.— Chris Bayliss (@Daddyofgirlz) October 12, 2019
Pitman is too static#Pompey
Marquis for Pitman ASAP. Evans’ set pieces have actually been decent today so I wouldn’t sub him too early but he should make way for Williams or Curtis as some point #Pompey— Mark Somerset (@mark11s) October 12, 2019
@ExpressFM started off brightly. After about 15 minutes the tempo seemed to have slowed down. Raggett has been very good and was unlucky not to score. We have it in us to get a couple of goals. Let’s hope that we can come out of the gates in the second half. Pitman looks lost.— Greg. Play Up Pompey (@Walkes_This_Way) October 12, 2019
A handful of #Pompey fans booing Pitman off decision. I’d love to know what they’re on.— Josh Sweetman (@JSweetman92) October 12, 2019
Only place the blokes touched the ball is in his own half
Obviously doesnt want promotion. What’s the point in buying these players and not use them Cannon should be on the pitch the whole game and not just a sub. Pitman has been awful today and making more awful decisions. Jackett out and take Bryn morris with you. Not good.— Bryony (@BeePFC2000) October 12, 2019
Not quite sure what to make of that? Personally thought that was one of our better performances this season- can’t believe crowd booing at the end. Can’t blame players. However, Jackett far too negative. Wrong team selection IMHO. Pitman worst player on pitch. #Pompey— Anthony Hesse (@PropPersonnel) October 12, 2019
Although Portsmouth extended their unbeaten streak in League One to three matches, there was real scope for victory and the players’ failure to take their chances has rankled with the Pompey fanbase.
The Fratton Park side is currently 16th in the table and up next is the trip to AFC Wimbledon next Saturday.
