Fans bid farewell to Fred Andrews in season 4’s premiere but not after the fan-favourite character pulled off one last heroic act!

Riverdale fans have not had it easy in the past year. In March 2019, the acclaimed actor, Luke Perry, who took on the role of Fred Andrews in the series, passed away.

As a result, the Riverdale writers decided on writing his character out of the show and did so in heartbreaking fashion that has left a number of fans teary-eyed.

However, the writers didn’t do Fred a disservice though as they gave him one final moment of off-screen, life-saving, heroism before his character was laid to rest.

But just who did Fred Andrews save in his final act in Riverdale?

Luke Perry’s death

As alluded to earlier, Luke Perry, the actor behind Fred Andrews, died earlier in 2019 after suffering a fatal stroke.

As a result, the Riverdale writers decided on killing-off the 52-year-old’s character and did so off-screen.

However, his death was not in vain as in one final act of heroism, Andrew saved someone’s life by pushing them out of the way of a speeding car before being struck down and killed himself.

Who did Fred Andrews save?

Despite Andrew’s death being kept off-screen, the cast and viewers got to meet the person he saved in the season 4 premiere.

The person in question is a character known only as Woman in the show’s cast lists on IMDb but is played by 48-year-old American actress Shannen Doherty.

When visiting the location of Andrew’s death, our gang of main characters meet Shannen’s character who has come to lay flowers and pay her respects to the man who saved her life.

Just like most of season 4’s opener, it’s a touching and heartfelt moment.

What else has Shannen Doherty been in?

Shannen Doherty may be a familiar face for some as she’s appeared in over 75 films and TV shows since her acting career began way back in 1981.

She made her acting debut in the TV series Father Murphy before going onto appear in the likes of Little House on the Prairie, Magnum P.I. and 1989’s 21 Jump Street.

Arguably her most recognised role came in the 1995 cult classic Mall Rats where she took on the role of Rene.

Other major roles for Shannen Doherty include a 10-year stint on Charmed between 1998 and 2008 and four years on Beverly Hill, 90210 between 1990 and 1994.

Season 4 of Riverdale continues on October 16th and for viewers in the UK, the entire series can be found on Netflix.
