Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth is reportedly on Sunderland’s radar.

According to The Telegraph, Sunderland are interested in appointing Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth as their new manager.

The Black Cats are on the hunt for a new manager following the recent departure of Jack Ross.

It has been reported that Ainsworth is the League One club’s number one managerial target, and that the Black Cats made their approach on Wednesday.

The report has also claimed that talks are expected to progress over the next 24 hours, and that Wycombe will demand a compensation fee.

Good managerial appointment for Sunderland?

Ainsworth has been in charge of Wycombe since November 2012 and is a very good manager.

The 46-year-old has been a success at Adams Park, and given the position that Sunderland currently find themselves in the league table at the moment, the Englishman will be a safe appointment for the Black Cats.

Sunderland are sixth in the League One table at the moment with 19 points from 11 matches, eight points behind leaders Ipswich Town and four points behind second-placed Wycombe.
