Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is thought to be a big fan of Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
Chelsea could be cleared to make signings in January, if their appeal against their transfer ban is successful, and it is suggested that Chilwell is a leading target of Frank Lampard’s.
Chilwell has been in impressive form for Leicester over the past two seasons, and established himself as England’s first choice left-back now.
Chelsea already have Emerson and Marcos Alonso who are able to play in the position, but Lampard wants an upgrade.
And it is thought that Chelsea are now leading the way for Chilwell.
The 22-year-old does have a lot of admirers, including Pep Guardiola, who talked positive about the flying full-back last season.
“Pep said he thought I was a really talented player and he wanted me to keep playing well, getting up and down the pitch and never going away from it,” Chilwell said to the Daily Mirror.
Manchester City have decided against going for Chilwell so far, despite Guardiola’s admiration for him, with Chelsea now said to be ahead of them in the race.
If Chelsea were to sign Chilwell he would not come cheaply, as Leicester are going well in the Premier League this season and have the defender locked in to a contract which runs until 2024.
