The Whites ace and Marcelo Bielsa favourite is currently away from Elland Road on international duty.
Leeds United winger Ezgjan Alioski was in action for North Macedonia on Thursday night as they ran out 2-1 winners against Slovenia at the Philip II Arena and his display earned praise on Twitter.
The Whites ace played the full 90 minutes for his nation en route to their third win in Group G of the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers, putting them on 11 points, and although he went to ground for a bit in extra time, this was deemed more likely to have just been tiredness (Macedonian Football Twitter).
Elif Elmas opened the scoring in the 50th minute of the game after a combination of short passes with his teammate Goran Pandev before firing past Slovenia’s Jan Oblak, and then doubled his tally from close range on 68 minutes.
The visitors did get one back deep into injury time via a Josip Ilicic penalty but it proved too little too late as Alioski and co celebrated victory and a crucial three points as the race for Group G hots up.
Here is what fans have been saying on Twitter about the Elland Road man’s display for his country:
Slovenia was far up the pitch, looking for the equalizer, so they were especially vulnerable on the counter.— Macedonian Football (@MacedonianFooty) 10 October 2019
Hats off to Alioski and Ademi. Ademi made the pass to release Elmas (clearly onside) and then a really good finish against one of the best keepers in the world.
