Scott Allan has claimed that he doesn't think Lawrence Shankland can fill the boots of Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths and be that player who can score 'out of nothing' for Scotland.
Dundee United striker Shankland recently earned his maiden call-up for Scotland, as the reported Celtic target will be hoping to make an impression against Russia and San Marino if given a chance.
The Daily Record previously claimed that Celtic and their Old Firm rivals have sent out scouts to watch Shankland in action after he bagged a hat-trick for Dundee United.
Nonetheless, speaking to PLZ Soccer, former Celtic man Allan shared his thoughts on Shankland playing for Scotland, and how Griffiths is the 'most natural finisher' in the country.
"Well, he scored goals," Allan told PLZ Soccer. "It's basically about getting balls into the box and see if he can attack it. That's the way Shankland plays.
"Our most natural finisher, Leigh Griffiths, is of course not playing at the moment, but he is the one that can perhaps score something out of nothing. I'm not sure Shankland can do that, I've not really seen much of him, but he can score when given the chance, so we will wait and see."
Scotland have been struggling in big ways recently and their fans will be hoping Shankland can provide that spark and magic which has been missing.
Not only that, if he can provide that then it'll bode well for his future because the Old Firmo duo, as mentioned above, are looking at what he is made of.
It remains to be seen whether Shankland will make his debut for Scotland as they take on Russia tonight.
