Chelsea have loaned out Ampadu to Red Bull Leipzig this term, but the move hasn’t worked out so far.
The teenaged defender is yet to make an appearance in Germany, with Chelsea surely disappointed at the way the summer move has worked out for the teenager.
But Giggs thinks that he still has seen progress from Ampadu, despite his lack of game time.
“He’s had a few problems there injury-wise, nothing serious but little aches and pains,” the Wales boss said.
“The last few camps he’s looked so much better in training.
“He is such a talent it’s hard to ignore. But it’s very difficult for him to play 90 minutes and back-to-back games, because he’s not had the minutes.”
Despite Ampadu’s slow start on his loan spell he is still very highly regarded by Chelsea.
The 19-year-old has always impressed when thrown into Chelsea’s first-team, but Frank Lampard obviously couldn’t see a clear pathway for him this term.
Ampadu is capable of playing in defensive midfield or at centre-back, so his versatility could make him a key squad member for Chelsea in future if he does fulfil his potential.
Whether Blues boss Frank Lampard will now terminate the loan in January to bring him back to Stamford Bridge remains to be seen.
Wales are in action against Slovakia this evening, before facing Croatia at the weekend.
