John Hartson comments on Everton’s reported 2018 interest in Kieran Tierney

Everton reportedly wanted Kieran Tierney when he was at Celtic.

John Hartson has told The Daily Record that he spoke to Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney when he was linked with Everton during his time at Celtic.

Tierney joined Premier League club Arsenal from Scottish Premiership club Celtic in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £25 million.

According to BBC Sport, Everton wanted to secure the services of the 22-year-old Scotland international left-back from the Hoops in the summer of 2018.

 

Nothing materialised, and former Celtic and Wales international striker Hartson has disclosed that he spoke to the youngster about reported interest from the Toffees.

Hartson told The Daily Record: “I spoke to him about 18 months ago about the potential Everton move.

“He was in turmoil in his head but the fact Brendan Rodgers was there and he convinced him to give Celtic another year and after that he would eventually move.”

Succeeding in the Premier League

Tierney is one of the best and most promising young left-backs in Europe, and the Scotland international left-back does have the potential to be a star in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has made a good start to his Arsenal career, and the defender will get better and improve in the coming months and years.
