Everton fans appear to be concerned by rumours that Lewis Gibson is on Newcastle United’s radar.
Everton signed Gibson from Newcastle in 2017, but he has not made an impact on their first-team.
Everton boss Marco Silva came out and suggested that he didn’t feel Gibson was ready for Premier League football in the summer, and he has not been used at all this term.
The youngster now appears to be reluctant to sign a new deal at Goodison Park, with Newcastle circling.
The Magpies want to bring him back to St. James’ Park.
And Everton fans are concerned that they could lose Gibson on a free transfer, as there is not a clear pathway for him to break into their side.
Lewis Gibson will leave Everton and not sign a new deal if Everton dont give him a pathway to first team. Thats why Sancho went to Germany because City would tell him his path to first team. Everton really need to sort out pathways (U18’s to U23’s to Loans to First Team)— El Pivote (@elpivoteftbl) October 9, 2019
If young CBs can't see a way to the first team, when we only have Keane, Mina and Holgate, then it is pretty poor. Silva is yet to give any young lad a chance, and we keep them here so we can win the PL2.— Marco Silva status: On thin ice. (@BlueDanEFC) October 9, 2019
It’s outrageous if they let that happen.— Matt (@africansunset73) October 9, 2019
Don't understand why he's not been given a kick.— Wayne Smyth (@WayneSmyth4) October 9, 2019
Preseason he looked better than Holgate. Appears to have more potential too, given he's 3 years younger and hasn't had all the 1st team football that Mason has had. Left footed too.
Would give him some game time looks quality when I’ve watched him along with Gordon and broadhead these are the future of this club and are probably more up for the fight which we are desperately missing— Gavin Hill (@HillGavinedward) October 9, 2019
As I said criminal not putting him on team photo (no kids at all in it). Also not one debut or even one unused bench appearance for any kids! Brands weak on this policy— Oliver Crawley (@OliverCrawley1) October 9, 2019
Joke if we haven't hes one of our better youngsters sums up the club at the moment— craig johnstone (@cjohno1001) October 9, 2019
Gibson is regarded as one of Everton’s top prospects so losing him would be a blow.
If Newcastle were to bring him back he would still face fierce competition for a first-team place though.
Newcastle have more centre-back options than Everton currently do, so he would have to impress Steve Bruce in training if he was to get a chance.
