Sunderland lost 2-0 at Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon, and that proved to be Jack Ross's final game in charge of the club.
Ross will have been hoping for a response in Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy clash with Grimsby Town, but he didn't even get chance to take charge of the game as he was sacked just hours before kick-off.
Appointed after a strong spell with St Mirren, Ross now moves on after just shy of 18 months in the job, and the attention turns to who could replace Robins.
Roy Keane has been a popular name with fans, as has recently-sacked Daniel Stendel, but Mark Robins is a name that has recently been touted for the job.
TEAMtalk claim that Sunderland are eyeing a move for Coventry boss Robins, who has again impressed in his second stint in charge of the Sky Blues.
Robins left Coventry for Huddersfield Town in 2013, but returned to the club in 2017, and guided them back to League One just a year later with a play-off final win over Exeter City.
Robins boasts a win rate of around 42% with Coventry, and fans are unsurprisingly hoping that he doesn't leave the club for a second time, this time for Sunderland.
Some think there would be more pressure at Sunderland and Robins should stay with Coventry, with a confident belief that he wouldn't leave for a move to the Stadium of Light.
Others think Coventry have just as much of a chance of promotion as Sunderland, so there's no point in leaving now, with others simply begging him not to go.
I must be the only one that thinks there’s no way Robins will go to Sunderland. But if he does. Honestly I’m so done.— Alex Craig (@AlexCraigGH) October 9, 2019
If Robin's leaves for Sunderland, we riot— Aaron (@AaronEdLi) October 9, 2019
They'd be huge pressure on his shoulders at Sunderland to get promotion. At Coventry, despite an expectant fanbase, there's alot less pressure to get promotion due to the adversity and the limited funds. Over-achieving in truth. I think Mark Robins will stay with Coventry. #PUSB https://t.co/JfRzyzXdGa— Cameron Cairns (@CameronCairns87) October 9, 2019
Can we all just take a moment here! If Mark Robins the king of the SBA went to Sunderland it would be the worse move since he left cov for Huddersfield. Surely he don’t want burge back in his squad. If it does happen Cov away to sunderland in November will be carnage! #pusb #ccfc— Ben clay (@ben292clay) October 9, 2019

Mark Robins please please please please please please don't go to Sunderland.— Wardy. (@tomfrancis1993) October 9, 2019
Definitely won't go.— Harry Chattaway (@Skyblueforlife) October 9, 2019
Why would he leave again especially for a team lower than us we will be fine— Scott Freeman (@ScottFr18855177) October 9, 2019
Whats in it for him, they have as much chance at promotion as we do. I could understand a top champ club. But he's built so much of the back room, i cant see it tbh.— Joseph (@Jojosdojo) October 9, 2019
Hope he doesn’t go.— Spud (@spud8550) October 9, 2019
