Jonathan Afolabi has expressed his disappointment on Instagram after picking up an injury whilst on international duty with the Republic of Ireland's U21's side.

The 19-year-old moved to Parkhead in the summer when he made the switch from Premier League side Southampton, as he would have been hoping to make his mark on Celtic's senior team.

The fact that Celtic aren't blessed with players knocking the door down behind Odsonne Edouard, these coming weeks and months would have provided Afolabi with a chance to prove his worth with the Celtic youngsters and then work his way up.

Instead, he has suffered a setback, and he will be hoping that it isn't too much of an issue because he has a lot of talent to burn on that pitch.

Nonetheless, this was the message, Afolabi sent from his personal Instagram account in regards to him picking up a knock with his national side:

Prior to the international break, Celtic suffered an away defeat against Livingston, as their rivals pounced on their slip-up by securing all three points against Hamilton hours later and moving to the top of the table.

Last season, Celtic were at their strongest towards the second half of the campaign, and Neil Lennon will be hoping that Afolabi can become that secret weapon for the team.

If he is able to have an impact in the final third for Celtic then he could provide them with a much-needed advantage in what is set to be a very closely-fought title race.

After the international break, Lennon's side will have two home matches, at first against Ross County before their Europa League tie against Lazio.
