Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers are two points clear of second-placed Neil Lennon’s Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard

Ally McCoist said on talkSPORT (7:51am, October 10, 2019) that Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers going top ahead of Neil Lennon’s Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table has surprised him.

Rangers are at the top of the league table at the moment with 21 points from eight matches, two points clear of second-placed and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Bhoys have won the league title in Scotland for the past eight seasons, and Lennon has the best squad in the country.

However, Rangers are giving Celtic a stiff challenge this season, and Ibrox legend McCoist is pleased.

McCoist said on talkSPORT (7:51am, October 10, 2019): “After Celtic, there’s no other way to put it, comprehensively beat Rangers at Ibrox where I was very, very disappointed, I am very pleasantly surprised to see Rangers back at the top of the table. I didn’t think that it would happen this quickly.”

Title race

Celtic have bounced back from disappointing results before, and the Hoops will be confident of doing the same in the coming weeks and months.

However, this season there is a genuine title race on, and with the consistency that Rangers are showing at the moment, they are very likely to take it all the way down to the wire.

Rangers and Celtic are also aiming to progress to the knockout round of the Europa League this season.
