Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Norwegian striker Erling Braut Haaland, report the Daily Star.

Haaland has emerged as one of Europe's most exciting strikers, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick on his Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney.

Haaland followed this up with a goal at Anfield for Red Bull Salzburg a fortnight later.

Tottenham have not bought strikers very often.

The last two they signed were Roberto Soldado and Vincent Janssen. They are lucky to have Harry Kane.

But the failures of their two recent additions should not stop them going in for a top talent.

The same reasoning for Spurs buying Janssen in 2016 still exists.

Tottenham need competition for Kane, to ease his burden and prevent him suffering injury.

Haaland would enable Tottenham to shift formation to move to two strikers up front.

He has a prolific record, scoring 18 goals already this season, including four hat-tricks.

The 19-year-old has the potential to be a generational talent, and adding him to Kane could give Tottenham an unstoppable strike force, making them the envy of the Premier League.

Spurs' defence is struggling at present, and investing heavily in their attack is one way to mitigate their weakness.
