Gibson left Newcastle to join Everton back in 2017, but he has failed to make an impression on the Toffees’ first-team.
Newcastle could now attempt to bring Gibson back, as they look to bolster their defensive options.
Whether the move back to Tyneside would appeal to the teenager remains to be seen, but he is a fan of the club.
“I’ve supported them since I was six and ever since I remember I’ve been going the game as a season ticket holder with my dad and brother,” Gibson said to the Chronicle.
“I’ll always be thankful for what they did for me. Every single coach I played with from u-9’s to u-18’s, I got on with.
“I knew the responsibility that they’d given me to play for Newcastle. That’s my hometown club. I loved playing for them.”
Everton paid £6 million for Gibson when they signed him from Newcastle (Daily Mail), and may well be looking for a bigger fee than that now if they were to sell.
Gibson is actually fourth choice centre-back at Everton, following their failure to sign a central defender in the summer.
If Gibson was brought back to Newcastle he would have plenty of competition for a first-team place with the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schar and Florian Lejeune at the club already.
