Championship duo Derby County and Boro are reportedly hoping to sign Peterborough United’s League One goal-machine Ivan Toney in January.

If Ivan Toney wants to secure a move to the Championship in January, he is certainly going about things in the right way.

The Peterborough United striker is apparently a target for both Middlesbrough and Derby County, according to TEAMtalk, but he’s not letting the speculation distract him from his goal of firing Darren Ferguson’s side into the League One top two.

Toney is in the form of his life right now and beating last season’s career-best tally of 23 goals certainly isn’t beyond him.

In fact, the former Newcastle and Northampton frontman has now hit the target 13 times in his last 13 League One games; a staggering run of form which began with a 3-2 win at Portsmouth on April 30 and continued with his well-taken equaliser in Saturday’s draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

In fact, the only player who can match Toney’s tally of nine league goals in 2019/20 is also plying his trade at London Road. Mo Eisa, after a difficult spell at Bristol City, is rebuilding his reputation as part of a formidable front three along with Toney and the enigmatic Marcus Maddison.

And with Middlesbrough netting just 11 times in a miserable start to the Championship campaign, plus the ongoing struggles of Jack Marriott at Derby County, Toney’s remarkable run could make him one of the Football League’s most coveted stars in the New Year.
