Celtic were linked with the 19-year-old star last January.
We’re only in October but already it looks as if Celtic might need more firepower up front.
The Hoops have Odsonne Edouard of course, the Frenchman netting nine goals in all competitions this season.
But beyond that, Neil Lennon has a problem. Leigh Griffiths is injured and Vakoun Issouf Bayo is unproven in Scottish football, having barely featured since arriving in January.
Rangers, on the other hand, have Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe who have fired them to the top of the Scottish Premiership, with the Gers netting four more goals than Celtic in the Premiership.
It makes you wonder how different things could be had the Parkhead club signed Aaron Connolly in January.
The 19-year-old is the man of the moment right now after scoring two Premier League goals in Brighton’s 3-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend, with Alan Shearer describing him as ‘absolutely magnificent’ during the win [The Mirror].
Coming from Shearer, that’s one hell of a compliment and Celtic must be gutted not to have signed him.
According to The Scottish Sun, Connolly was on Brendan Rodgers’s radar during the January transfer window but nothing ever materialised. Plus, Rodgers is one of the best man-managers around, as claimed by Rangers’ Jordan Rossiter this week [The Scottish Sun], and someone of Connolly’s talents could’ve been an absolute star under him at the Bhoys.
Of course, Griffiths, who scored 40 goals during the 2015-16 campaign, has the talent to be a huge player for Lennon when he returns, while Bayo has shown a lot of promise too.
But if Edouard is still carrying Celtic’s title bid by January, and Rangers are still ahead, then it’ll make you wonder whether Connolly might’ve been the difference.
