Arsene Wenger backed Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino to turn things around.
Tottenham Hotspur fans have put loyalties to one side to praise former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on Twitter.
It has been a dark week in the modern history of Spurs, who lost 3-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion this past weekend in their first game since being thrashed 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Consequently, there are concerns about Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term future as Tottenham manager. Despite dragging the club to a new plain, the Argentine, who led the Lilywhites to a Champions League final last season, is coming under major scrutiny.
Wenger has enjoyed a number of managerial duels with Pochettino in North London derbies during his time as Arsenal manager, and the legendary Frenchman backed his old adversary to bounce back, stating on BeIN Sports that he will ‘certainly rebuild’.
He said: “Your real quality is always where you finish in the table. So the real trend is there. They knew and Pochettino knows, he said himself something is not there at the moment. And he will certainly rebuild that.
“I like him [Pochettino] very much because he’s always been quiet, respectful, motivated, worked very well and got a lot of recognition from his own players, that means he’s a quality manager.”
Wenger was the bain of Tottenham supporters’ for so long, after Arsenal went more than 10 years unbeaten against their North London rivals at one point.
But quite a few Spurs fans are acknowledging the 69-year-old on Twitter for his positive comments.
Here’s how they reacted:
