Richard Keys has written in his blog that former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez would 'walk' back to England to join Merseyside rivals Everton if they came calling.

The Toffees are 18th in the Premier League table and it's very possible that the Goodison Park club's hierarchy could dismiss Marco Silva in the near future.

Benitez, who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, was linked with the Everton job prior to Silva taking the reins in 2018.

The Spanish manager is now working in China after he and Mike Ashley failed to agree a new contract at Newcastle United at the end of last season.

But Keys has claimed that the Dalian Yifang and former Chelsea manager would definitely be interested in the Everton role once again, writing that his Anfield history wouldn't put him off.

He wrote: "Don’t believe he wouldn’t take it. He tried twice to get it when he was at Newcastle - before Sam and Silva.

"He’d walk back from China for it. Rafa doesn’t do ‘emotion’ - as he proved when he went to Chelsea. He does what he believes is right for himself."

Only four separate managers have won the Champions League for Liverpool, giving Benitez a special place in the fans' heart forever.

As a result, the prospect of him joining Everton would definitely worry a lot of Reds supporters, many of whom will feel as if is legacy has been tarnished.
