Marco Silva is under increasing pressure at Everton and, according to 90Min, the Premier League strugglers are confident of luring Erik Ten Hag away from Ajax should they decide to swing the axe on the Portuguese coach.
After spending huge sums on Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi, Everton did not expect to be stuck in the relegation zone heading into the October international break.
A disastrous start to the season, including two wins in eight games, means Silva’s future is once again up in the air with the Goodison Park faithful turning against a manager who has never really convinced since taking over in the summer of 2018.
And reports are now suggesting that a replacement has been lined up already.
Ten Hag was catapulted into the mainstream last season after leading Ajax to their first Eredivisie title for five years, not to mention a first Champions League semi-final since the turn of the century.
The 49-year-old Dutchman has coached Ajax for two years now, having honed his trade at Utrecht and with Bayern Munich’s second team. And Marcel Brands, Everton’s sporting director who previously worked at PSV Eindhoven, will know his compatriot well from their time together in the Eredivisie.
The report claims that Brands is hopeful that Ten Hag could be tempted to walk away from the Amsterdam giants with the highly-rated coach understood to be his number one target.
