Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 3-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Neal Maupay has told the Daily Mirror that he noticed Tottenham Hotspur’s players’ heads dropping, after his side scored the first goal.

Spurs were beaten 3-0 on the south coast at the weekend, as they suffered yet another humiliating defeat.

Tottenham were expected to start with all guns blazing, after being beaten 7-2 by Bayern Munich in midweek.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men found themselves 1-0 down early on against Brighton and they never recovered.

Spurs looked laborious and lethargic on Saturday, and Maupay admits that he could tell their confidence was low.

“We sensed their heads went down after the first goal – that’s why we kept pushing and putting pressure on them,” said Maupay.

“Losing Lloris and the goal so early was hard for them and they looked worried. We knew they were having a tough time so we wanted to keep going at them. And it worked because they dropped a bit and we got the second goal.”

If confidence is that low among the Spurs squad that one goal can cause their heads to drop then it is seriously worrying.

Brighton ended up punishing Tottenham with an excellent performance, but there are now question marks over whether the Lilywhites players are responding to Pochettino any more.

Spurs were so far off the pace against Brighton that it was alarming.

Tottenham are now in ninth place in the Premier League table, after what has been an appalling start to the campaign.
