Paulo Dybala fired Juve to the top of Serie A just after Spurs flopped once again in a dismal Premier League defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

After two humiliating defeats, 10 goals conceded, a dislocated elbow and #PochOut, the last thing Tottenham Hotspur fans needed right now was to see Paulo Dybala send a scorcher into the Inter Milan net and fire Juventus clear at the top of the Serie A table.

With Spurs licking their wounds following 3-0 and 7-2 defeats to Brighton and Bayern Munich, it’s hard to believe that Dybala was on the verge of a stunning move to North London just a matter of weeks ago.

According to The Independent, Tottenham spent three weeks trying to get the £350,000-a-week Juventus superstar over the line with Dybala interested in working with fellow Argentine Mauricio Pochettino in the English capital.

The forward’s infamous image rights scuppered the deal at the eleventh hour, however. And while Football London believes that another bid will be on the way in January, there appears to be more chance of Daniel Levy handing out free ice creams outside Spurs’ new stadium than Dybala arriving in the New Year.

And the 25-year-old looked back to his elusive best during Sunday’s Derby D’Italia triumph over Antonio Conte’s reborn Inter, fizzing a brilliant third minute shot into the far corner to send Juve on their way to a 2-1 win.

Oh what might have been.
