It has just gone from bad to worse for Sandro Ramirez.
Going into Real Valladolid’s La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid over the weekend, the Everton loanee had not scored in 52 games in all competitions, a dismal run which included forgettable loan spells at Sevilla and Real Sociedad.
In fact, his only goal in the last 65 matches came during Everton’s humiliating 5-1 home defeat against Atalanta in the Europa League in December 2017. Wayne Rooney, Davy Klaassen and Beni Baningime started that day, with David Unsworth standing dejected on the touchline.
A lot has changed in the last two years. But one constant is Sandro’s ongoing struggles in front of goal.
So he probably couldn’t believe his luck when he fired a penalty miles over the crossbar as Valladolid missed a glorious chance to beat Diego Simeone’s side in front of their own supporters. The game ended 0-0 and Sandro, who once again looked a tortured soul as his own personal torment goes on, now has one goal in his last 66 games and none in his last 53.
Everton paid £5.1 million to bring Sandro to Goodison Park in the summer of 2017 after he scored 14 goals during a breakthrough La Liga campaign with Malaga, as reported by the Independent.
These days, Everton will be laughing all the way to the bank if they somehow avoid making a big loss on a player whose career continues to go downhill at a remarkable rate.
Seriously, Sandro Ramírez has a curse resting above him. He simply cannoy score.— Jonas Giæver (@CheGiaevara) October 6, 2019
A 53-game non-scoring run for Sandro Ramírez, theoretically a striker, is kind of impressive https://t.co/kWMWbp8tTZ— The Spanish Football Podcast (@tsf_podcast) October 6, 2019
It’s where strikers come to die. Moise Kean will be working in Wickes by Xmas— Graeme (@graemeh1984) October 6, 2019
To continue the weekend of general Everton sadness... Sandro Ramirez has just absolutely skied a penalty over the bar for Real Valladolid #EFC— Matt Jones (@MattJFootball) October 6, 2019
