Liverpool will head into the international break sitting top of the Premier League table.

Wayne Rooney has boldly claimed that Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season as he believes that they have ‘improved’ from the previous campaign.

The Reds were pipped by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last term, and at this moment in time, they hold an eight-point lead on their rivals – City take on Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Once again, it is pretty obvious that the title race will only be contested by Liverpool or City, with Jurgen Klopp’s side picking up a late controversial winner against Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

Former Manchester United striker Rooney, who is now playing in the MLS, is well aware of what it takes to lift the Premier League trophy as he backed Liverpool to end their trophy drought.

On who he is picking to win the league: “In my opinion, Liverpool look the strongest,” Rooney told IFL TV. “City are a fantastic team. I think Liverpool have improved on last year, whereas City have stayed at that level of great consistency, so I think Liverpool.”

It would have been pretty tough for Rooney to back Liverpool to win the title given his allegiances to Manchester United and Everton, but it perhaps proves how dangerous Klopp’s side are looking.

They have won every Premier League game so far, and after the international break, they will come up against their old rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Things haven’t been going well for United, so from a logical perspective, Liverpool would be backed to win and win comfortably.

But given the nature of these games, anything can happen and it wouldn’t be a surprise if things don’t go to plan and United do walk away with something on the day.
