If Sunday's performance against Lyon is anything to go by, Arsenal have a real talent on their hands.
William Saliba played a blinder as Saint Etienne beat the Ligue 1 outfit 1-0 last night.
The 18-year-old centre-back, who officially signed for Arsenal in a £27 million deal during the summer, was charged with the task of keeping Moussa Dembele quiet - a job he performed excellently.
The former Celtic hitman had six goals in seven starts going into last night's clash, but the teenage powerhouse kept him on a short leash throughout.
It was a fabulous individual display from the Arsenal-owned star and here's how fans of the North London club reacted on Twitter:
Saliba so quick and powerful VVD 2.0 we got a gem on our hands— TorreiraTime (@Harris_Otiso) October 6, 2019
Watching Saliba for S. Etienne (again x 4). He is very calm when under pressure...similar to Van Dijk.— IslingtonGoonerAFC (@Born_a_gooner) October 6, 2019
Needs to bulk up a bit for the PL.
Decent performance from Saliba. He really has everything: power, pace and vision. Got done by Aouar twice in the second half but clean sheet for Saint-Etienne and a first win for Puel (in the derby against Lyon as well).— SamW (@SamW_AFC) October 6, 2019
Aouar gave Saliba a real test in the second half but he came through it with a clean sheet for Saint-Etienne in a massive 1-0 win against Lyon! #AFC— Dan Critchlow (@afcDW) October 6, 2019
Anyone watching William Saliba play against Lyon? I must say, he’s been absolutely fantastic— WorldwideArsenal™ (@WorldwideAFC) October 6, 2019
William Saliba the next big thing in terms of defenders. Monstrous physical frame and is athletic whilst being good on the ball too.— S1 AFC (@Arsenal_S1) October 6, 2019
Saliba doing bits in France, time to get excited— Allez AFC (@allezarsenal) October 6, 2019
Arsenal fans on Saliba watch - good start to the derby but as Aouar improved he gave the defender the run-around at times.— Jeremy Smith (@jeremysmith98) October 6, 2019
Post-match he was practically in tears at the win - great to see him so passionate.
William Saliba starts and St.Etienne look a different side. Can't wait to have him at Arsenal alongside Holding,Tierney and Bellerin. This would be massive #AFC— Mutuma♡ (@mutumaMM) October 6, 2019
David Luiz hadn't enjoyed a brilliant start to life at Arsenal, but the Brazilian centre-back has looked better in recent games and scored the winner on Sunday as Unai Emery's side beat Bournemouth 1-0.
Originally, the decision to sign Luiz instead of keeping Saliba in North London was questioned by Arsenal supporters, such was the former Chelsea man's trying start, but Luiz is slowly adapting.
