The Leeds United loanee once again struggled in London.
It’s one step forward and two back for Helder Costa at Leeds United right now.
Last week, Marcelo Bielsa gave his marquee summer signing a full Championship debut in the 1-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic, but he posted a very subdued performance.
Seven days later, Costa and Leeds returned to London for this afternoon’s trip to Millwall.
Bielsa started him again after his strong cameo against West Bromwich Albion in midweek, but the Portuguese winger again struggled.
In fact, Costa was so disappointing that Bielsa hooked him for Barry Douglas at half-time and within 15 seconds of the restart, the Whites, who trailed 2-0 at the break after having Gaetano Berardi controversially sent off, were back in the game when Ezgjan Alioski halved the deficit.
Here’s how Leeds supporters reacted to another damp squib from their big-money man:
Don’t want to see Costa in a Leeds shirt again— Daz Scott (@DazScott1) October 5, 2019

Costa had been terrible Charlton now Millwall both starts #lufc— Herbie (@Spenna11) October 5, 2019
Helder Costa hasn’t done anything to justify a start. I would almost give Jack Clarke a run at this stage.— LUFC Worldwide (@LUFC_WorldWide) October 5, 2019
He’s been anonymous today but nowhere near as bad as Costa. I’m really starting to wonder if we’ve bought ourselves a very expensive dud with Costa.— Lufc-El (@LufcEl) October 5, 2019
Costa, am really not seeing anything half decent there, or am I missing something? #LUFC— ghoods (@Girhodes5) October 5, 2019
Can the real Helder Costa turn up please #lufc— J. (@lufcjames19) October 5, 2019
Leeds officially only signed Costa on loan from Wolves, but they’re committed to paying £15 million [The Daily Mail] at the end of this season and, well, the Portugal international has so much to do to justify that fee.
Despite scoring immediately after the restart, Bielsa’s side couldn’t find an equaliser despite a huge second-half effort, losing 2-1.
