Mesut Ozil was pictured training for Arsenal this week, but had no part to play against Standard Liege in the Europa League.
The £42.5 million ace did not even make Arsenal's bench, and the 4-0 victory showed they did not need him.
Gunners boss Unai Emery gave a blunt response when asked about Ozil after the game.
He told Football London: "I am thinking every time the best players for the match. When I decided he isn’t in the squad it’s because other players deserve it more.
"What does he have to do? Continue working.
"Sunday we have another match. We are going to decide again."
Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell backed Emery's comments.
Great to hear this from UE. No more privilege it’s about hard work https://t.co/VDD9ZeRIjN— Kevin Campbell (@1kevincampbell) October 3, 2019
It is a really odd situation regarding Ozil, who did not travel to face Manchester United on Monday, or in the previous Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
He did though play in the Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest, and has one Premier League appearance.
The odds are not in Ozil's favour of him featuring at home to Bournemouth on Sunday.
It is up the player to respond to Emery's comments, and show him something a bit different. Work a bit harder? Stay later after training? He needs to show he deserves the recall, rather than just expecting it based on pay and reputation.
