The Glasgow Rangers defender was one of several Ibrox players who had a poor game away in Switzerland for Steven Gerrard and co.

A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have been commenting on Twitter regarding the Ibrox side’s heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Young Boys in the Europa League last night and one of the players who came under criticism was Connor Goldson.

While Rangers captain James Tavernier copped the majority of the flak for his role in both of the opponents’ goals, Goldson was also unconvincing, failing to clear when given the opportunity for Young Boys’ leveller and being beaten by pace for the winner.

The Ibrox side broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when Alfredo Morelos shook off a defender and darted into the box before sliding the ball into the net, but the hosts levelled five minutes into the second half when Roger Assale fired in from close range.

Just as it seemed as though Steven Gerrard and co were on their way to a point, they conceded a second deep into added time when Christian Fassnacht fired in to condemn the Gers to an empty-handed return to Glasgow

All four teams in Group G now have three points apiece after Feyenoord beat Porto in the group’s other game.

Here is what some Bears on social media were saying about Goldson’s performance:

Goldson, a £3million signing for Rangers in 2018 (fee reported by Sky Sports), is rated highly by Gerrard and has got a lot of game time under him, but there have been fan concerns over his recent performances, with one especially lacklustre display in the recent Scottish League Cup game against Livingston.
