Umar Sadiq has scored eight goals in 16 games since joining Partizan Belgrade so why didn’t he do this in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers?

Umar Sadiq has averaged a goal every other game this season and took his tally to eight overall with a brilliant double in the Europa League on Thursday night. Yes Rangers fans, that Umar Sadiq.
The fact that the Nigerian striker is best remembered for a cringe-inducing dive against Aberdeen speaks volumes about his ill-fated loan spell at Ibrox last season. Sadiq arrived with a big reputation from Italian giants Roma and an impressive few months at NAC Breda under his belt.
But it quickly became apparent that Sadiq was destined for a place alongside James Beattie, Francis Jeffers and Joe Garner as one of the worst Gers strikers of the modern era. After four games, no goals and a rather public dressing down from Gerrard, who said ‘You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out that he is going to have to improve’, Sadiq saw his season-long loan cut in half.

So you can imagine that he took plenty of pride out of a match-winning brace in Partizan Belgrade’s 2-1 triumph over Astana on Thursday, while Rangers collapsed to lose late on away at Young Boys.
Sadiq’s second, ruthlessly dispatched into the top corner, was his eighth in 16 games in all competitions. Bring Umar back, anyone?
