Virgil van Dijk was far from his best for Liverpool against FC Salzburg at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk has taken to Instagram to send a message to the fans after the win against FC Salzburg.

The Reds got the better of FC Salzburg 4-3 at Anfield in Champions League Group E on Wednesday evening.

Although the Merseyside outfit won, their performance at the back left much to be desired.

Van Dijk is one of the best central defenders in the world, but the Netherlands international centre-back did not have a good game on a personal level.

Hwang Hee-chan made the former Celtic and Southampton star look average for his goal and embarrassed him.

Van Dijk – who is valued at €120 million (£106.95m) by the CIES Football Observatory – has admitted on Instagram that the performance of Liverpool was not great, but the 26-year-old centre-back has underlined the importance of a win at the end of the day.

The win against FC Salzburg means that Liverpool are now second in Champions League Group E with three points from two matches, a point behind leaders Napoli.
