Both Sheffield United and Aston Villa gained promotion from the Championship last season.
Some Sheffield United fans are fuming over an Aston Villa player’s call up to the England squad at the expense of one of theirs.
Sheffield United have made a brighter start to their first campaign back in the Premier League than Aston Villa, who sit six positions and three points below them in the table.
The Blades (seven) have also conceded four fewer goals than the Villans and boast the bottom half’s best defence so far.
Nevertheless, there are two members of the Aston Villa back line in Gareth Southgate’s latest Three Lions squad and none from Sheffield United.
And the following Blades fans feel that at least one of those (Tyrone Mings) should have been omitted in favour of his Bramall Lane counterpart (Jack O’Connell)…
Tomori and Mings in front of O’Connell? Yeah ok Gareth.— SteelCityMarshian (@SteelMarshian) October 3, 2019
Heaton better than Henderson??— BBSinge (@BrettBrookes) October 3, 2019
Mings better than O’Connell??
Delph better than Lundstram??
On current form I’d say no to all the above but Blades won’t get a look in for the @England squad. ( I know Hendo had a mare last week!!)
Instead Tomori who failed to win promotion last season. O’Connell has also out performed Mings in the last 18 months with the best defensive record in the championship last season. Blades have also conceded 7 goals to villas 11 so far this season ♂️— Jake Bellamy⚔️⚪️ (@BellersTheBlade) October 3, 2019
I can see why Keane because he plays for Everton but O’Connell is class above Mings and Tomori https://t.co/DtPTPkZF2I— Luke ⚔️ (@lahblade) October 3, 2019
Tomori and mings over O’Connell? Fuck off https://t.co/u74zhiPXIy— Will Jeffrey (@thewilljeffrey) October 3, 2019
How the fuck has mings made it over O’Connell?— James⚔️ (@Sufc_Jam3s) October 3, 2019
Would love for someone to explain to me how Michael Keane and Tyrone Mings get a shot at the England squad over Jack O’Connell… oh yeah it’s a big money move. If JOC went to Everton for £30m he’d be straight in. #sufc #twitterblades— Jono (@jonog92) October 3, 2019
Someone explain why Tyrone Mings is in the England squad and Jack O’Connell isn’t #twitterblades— Regan Millard (@ReganMillard) October 3, 2019
In Mings’ defence, this is not his first taste of life in the Premier League, having spent four years on Bournemouth’s books.
O’Connell, on the other hand, is new to the top-flight, having played a key role in Sheffield United’s swift ascent from League One.
Sheffield United and Aston Villa fans – what do you make of Southgate’s latest selection?
