Premier League trio Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal and Manchester City reportedly want to sign Real Madrid’s La Liga starlet Martin Odegaard.
Martin Odegaard has dealt a blow to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal and Manchester City by admitting to ESPN that he has no intention of leaving Real Sociedad in January.
During a loan spell in San Sebastian, Odegaard is starting to fulfil the dazzling potential that encouraged Real Madrid to bring him to the Bernabau when he was just 15 years old.
Still Los Blancos’ youngest ever debutant, the Norwegian playmaker has been forced to leave the Spanish capital in an attempt to progress his career and, after impressing during short-term moves to Heerenveen and Vitesse Arnhem, he has been arguably the most impressive midfielder anywhere in La Liga this season since joining Sociedad on a 12-month deal.
According to The Mirror Wolves were hoping to lure Odegaard to Molineux in January while his dazzling displays have also caught the eye of City and Arsenal, according to El Desmarque, with Real Madrid valuing him at a staggering £72 million.
But don’t expect to see Odegaard carving apart Premier League defences any time soon. He’s loving life at La Real and even plans to extend his stay at the Anoeta until the end of 2020/21.
“My intention is to stay [at Sociedad] two years and I think that’s important for me, too,” says Odegaard, who has been compared to Kevin de Bruyne of late.
“I have had two seasons in a row where I’ve changed teams. To have some stability is good [and] this is a great club and hopefully we can get European football for next season.”
Odegaard’s decision looks like the right one. He’s in the form of his life right now, finally playing regular first-team football in a top European league and why would he give all that up to potentially sit on the bench at the Etihad or the Emirates?
